Gleeds Chairman honoured with special fellowship from the CIOB

Richard Steer, Chairman of international management and construction consultancy Gleeds, has recently been awarded a Special Fellowship from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) in recognition of his significant contribution to the construction industry.

The CIOB is one of the world’s largest and most influential professional bodies for construction management and leadership with over 45,000 members worldwide. However, only a comparatively select number of Special Fellowships have ever been awarded on a global basis, with just 10 new fellows recognised each year.

The Special Fellowship aims to bring into CIOB membership distinguished individuals from within the building industry, education and government who will make a significant contribution to the organisation. Those elected are expected to become a CIOB Ambassador, representing the Institute, developing CIOB policy and furthering the objectives of the institute for the benefit of society.

The award was presented to Richard Steer by Alan Crane CBE FCIOB, past President of the CIOB, during the organisation’s inaugural ‘International Outstanding Achievement Awards’ at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London’s Westminster.

Richard Steer, Chairman of Gleeds Worldwide, said of the award: “I am both honoured and grateful to have been recognised in this way by the Chartered Institute of Building. With the organisation’s growing global reputation, I am hopeful that there will be considerable synergy between Gleeds and the CIOB as it develops its global footprint. I hope to be able to play an active ambassadorial role in that context in the coming months.”
