JetBlue Terminals at JFK

Creating a customer focused travel experience

Taking care of customers is what JetBlue Airways is all about. That’s why customer experience was at the forefront of the airline’s goals for its new terminal at JFK International Airport.

Gleeds has worked with JetBlue since 2006 on several projects, including the development of Terminal 5 (T5) and Terminal 5 International (T5i), the facility’s new international arrivals concourse. We developed, implemented and managed a cost control system for the programs, and provided oversight and review of document control processes.

One of the world’s best terminals

T5 is a state-of-the-art terminal recognised for its customer experience, service and concessions. As one of the 1st terminals in the U.S. completely designed and built after 9/11, security and safety were of paramount importance. The 635,000 ft2 terminal includes a 20-lane security checkpoint for 29 gates throughout 3 concourses. Travelers can reach any of T5’s gates within a 5-minute walk from the TSA checkpoint.

Connecting the concourses is the Marketplace, which accommodates events like JetBlue’s “Live from T5” concert series. T5 is also home to:

  • 20+ restaurants and markets
  • 15+ shops and stores
  • Concessions
  • A spa
  • Pay-per-use Airspace Lounge

Simplifying international travel

The 6-gate T5i extension opened in 2014 to further enhance the customer travel experience by bringing customs and integration in-house. Safety and efficiency were key goals for T5i’s design and functionality. To expedite travelers through customs, 40 automated passport control machines and 10 global entry kiosks are available.

The 175,000 SF expansion of T5 provides two additional baggage claim belts for international baggage, and 6 new restaurants and food outlets.

Spotlight on sustainability

T5i includes a number of sustainable features:

  • Natural daylight
  • Reclaimed concrete used throughout
  • Low VOC materials
  • Efficient HVAC system
  • Low flow fixtures
